Dear Dad

Dear Dad

Hi Dad,
It’s good to hear from you. I’m glad things are going well on your end and that you are finding ways to stay positive and keep busy.
I just finished up a most lovely workshop for a group of 13 amazing women- celebrating the 60th birthday of a beloved mom and friend. I worried a bit about my emotional capacity to be in the midst of a mom-centered event, but it was so special and touching and it encouraged me to remember my very special friendship with my own irreplaceable mom. She would have loved this morning’s gathering.
The weather here has been GLORIOUS. It feels like October in August- so unexpected and grand and welcome. Sunshine, sweet breezes, 70 degrees; in every way a blessing to my spirit and body.
D went back to Syracuse last week, celebrated her 19th birthday on Thursday, and reports that she loves all her classes, her new living situation, and her new co-workers. I can’t tell you how good it feels to hear that and to know that she is happy and living her best life.
Raimee is walking up to the farm right now. He got stung by a wasp right between the eyes on Thursday but is practicing such grace over the swelling (the whole right side of his face!) and moving through it in his usual amiable way. “Don’t worry, Mom” he says “the swelling will be gone on Sunday and I’ll be good as new.” He just adapts, and with a natural cheerfulness that I envy.
Mason is thriving in Colorado. He is leaning into a time of personal discovery and growth, in addition to fly fishing, rafting, hiking, rock climbing, camping and studying to become an EMT. Our hearts could not be more hopeful. We are looking forward to seeing him next week.
It’s a very full and diverse life we are living. I’m taking each day- each moment, actually- and holding on to all that’s precious and letting go (or trying to) of all the things that are outside of my control and not serving my heart in meaningful ways. I’m reading a ton, going to a lot of therapy, connecting with friends, and burying myself in nature and the work of the farm. I keep company with butterflies and hummingbirds, and have learned to appreciate the vultures, because they keep our woods from being disgusting. (Did you know that more than one vulture is called a committee?)
I hope all is well with you, and glad to hear that high speed internet is rapidly making its way to the outskirts of rural PA. Sending prayers for your continued comfort and peace, and hopes that you will enjoy the miracles of this beautiful day.
With love, R
